Pilot Rating Hour Requirements

Recreational Pilot

30 total hours of flight
15 hours of flight training
2 hours of flight training to an airport more than 25 nautical miles from the airport of origin which includes at least 3 landings
3 hours of flight training in preparation for the practical test within 60 days
3 hours of solo flying in the aircraft for which the rating is sought

Private

Total (FAR Part 61) 40 hours
Dual 20 hours
Cross Country 3 hours
Night 3 hours (including 10 takeoffs and landings)
Simulated Instrument 3 hours
Flight test prep. 3 hours
Solo 20 hours
In airplanes 10 hours
Cross Country 10 hours

Instrument

FAR part 61.65
Cross Country 50 hours PIC (at least 10 of which is in an airplane for the instrument rating)
Actual/Simulated Instrument 40 hours to include the following:
Instrument Flight Training 15 hours
Flight test prep 3 hours (within 60 days of test)
At least one Cross Country flight under IFR to include 250 nautical miles with an instrument approach at each airport using three different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems

      Ground Trainer maximum 50 hours
      Powered Aircraft 100 hours
            In airplanes 50 hours
      Dual 50 hours
            Complex airplane 10 hours
