Private Pilot Training Progression Order

Pre-Solo

1. Pre-flight inspections, takeoffs and landings, straight and level flight, turns, climbs and descents.
2. Turns to headings, stalls, takeoffs and landings, review previous material introduced.
3. Slow flight, emergencies, takeoffs and landings, review previous material introduced.
4. Ground reference maneuvers, takeoffs and landings, review previous material introduced.
5. Traffic patterns, takeoffs and landings, review previous material introduced.
6. Slips to landings, specialized takeoffs and landings, review previous material introduced.
7. Specialized takeoffs and landings, review previous material introduced. (Continue until solo)

Solo

- Practice maneuvers learned in pre-solo and takeoffs and landings.

Dual X-C

- Three hours cross country flight training to include one flight of over 100 nautical miles.
- Three takeoffs and landings to a full stop at an airport with an operating control tower.

Solo X-C

- A total of 5 hours of solo X-C time.

Dual Post-Solo Instruction

- Basic Instrument Procedures: Three hours of flight training to include control and maneuvering solely by reference to instruments, unusual attitude awareness and recovery, and appropriate navigation and ATC systems and facilities.

- Night Operations: At least 3 hours of night training. One X-C of at least 150 nautical miles total distance with full stop landings at a minimum of three points, one segment of the flight consisting of a straight-line distance of at least 50 nautical miles. 10 takeoffs and landings to a full stop at an airport.

Review

Three hours of flight training in the preceding 60 days before the practical test of review.
