Student Pilot Time Limitations
As a student pilot, in order to be considered current for solo flight you must
receive a logbook endorsement by an authorized instructor every 90 days. This
is stated in FAR Part 61.87 section “n” paragraph 5. It is my preferred policy
to have students fly at least every 30 days or receive this endorsement again if
not possible. This will ensure that the student is current and comfortable
flying after a period of time of inactive flight status. The reason for this
is that it is easy for any pilot, not just students, to pick up bad or un-safe
habits in even a short period of time such as 30 days of inactive flight status.
By flying at least this often with an instructor, these habits can be avoided
and corrected in order to disallow the formation and furthering of such habits.
Also, during your training, weather will play in an important role in whether or
not to fly solo. If there is not a ceiling of at least 3000 MSL and flight
visibility of at least 7 statute miles, do not fly. Also, wind conditions will
be important to consider. If they are greater than 10 knots maximum head wind
component or greater than 7 knots maximum crosswind component, do not fly. These
policies of mine are in order to best provide for the safety of yourself and
the aircraft you will be using during your training to become a safe and
proficient pilot. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I
will be more than happy to discuss them with you. Thank you!
